  • Cancer Care

Cancer kills! Cancer Treatment in our nation is unaffordable for the lower strata of people. While Tata Memorial Hospital in Parel, Mumbai provides free medical treatment, patients and families of Cancer patients often have no place to live. These families end up sleeping on the footpaths outside the hospital, in pitiable and unhygienic conditions.

The Shri Gadge Maharaj Mission Trust, founded a “Home” at Dadar , where the needy cancer patients and their families could stay virtually free of cost. The Dharamshala (Home) has over 100 rooms and a large basement, and over 600 are housed here.

On a visit to the Dharamshala (Home ), we found that the 4000 sq.ft. basement was in abysmal condition. The 80 odd occupants were living in an area which had little light, little ventilation, dirty floors, soot and grime in the cooking area, exhaust fans not working, and dirty walls.

A request was made to us to assist in the matter and we got on the job. Within a span of 6 weeks the entire basement was renovated and the main areas we covered were:

  1. Laying of new vitrified tiles
  2. Repairs, re-plastering and painting of walls and ceiling
  3. Providing Kaddapa and marble shelves for storage
  4. Providing High performance lights and fans to ensure ventilation and proper circulation of air.
  5. Proper clothes lines to hang up and dry their clothes
  6. Beautification of pillars with pictures of wild life.

The project was conceptualized, supervised and completed and handed over on time on 8th December 2013.

A special mention needs to be made about the untiring efforts efforts of Rtn. Minu Mehtalia. We were shocked by his sudden and untimely passing away at the end of the month !

This Project is dedicated in his memory.

Cancer Prevention

We regularly sponsor Cancer Awareness and Detection Camps with the support of the Team from the Cancer Prevention Association(CPA)

These camps are conductedby CPA , and the Tests include a pre-camp lecture on cancer and its prevention, dental and oral check-up (for oral cancers), a Blood Test, a thorough external and internal examination. Those suspected are called for detailed examination and radiological tests to their centre.
